Students’ Perceptions of the Classroom Learning Environment and Engagement in Cooperative Mastery Learning-Based Biology Classroom Instruction

Literature confirms that students’ engagement in biology is necessary predictor of their learning outcomes. However, how to do so less certain. Therefore, this study investigated whether students taught using Cooperative Mastery Learning (CML) had different perceptions environment and when compared those Conventional Teaching Methods (CTM). A sample 298 (151 male 147 female) 7 intact classes was used. modified What Is Happening In Class (WIHIC) Student Engagement Questionnaire (SEQ) were used collect data. Data mainly analyzed the multivariate analysis variance simple correlation analysis. The findings indicated a statistically significant difference for all WIHIC SEQ scales with CML scoring higher than CTM classes. Students’ significantly associated scales. provide important information about exposure can help them be more engaged Hence, practical instructional strategy implications teachers, syllabus designers, curriculum planners.
